Qualitative insight for education
Sluice Consultancy brings rigorous, interview-based research to educational settings — surfacing the staff experience that numbers alone cannot capture, and supporting individual educators to make genuine meaning of their professional lives.
For educators
Teaching is an intensely personal practice. Illuminate creates the conditions to examine it — not through evaluation or feedback, but through careful, unhurried conversation.
For individual educators
A guided experiential reflection for educators who want to make genuine meaning of a significant professional experience. A warm, private conversation — followed by a carefully crafted written document that surfaces what you might not have been able to name about yourself.
For institutions
Survey data tells you what people say. Qualitative inquiry tells you what they mean. Sluice Consultancy's institutional services go beneath the surface to where culture and experience actually live.
For organisations
Commissioned by a school to support a teacher through an annual review, exit interview, or transition conversation — with one important difference: the teacher decides what is shared. Accord produces a rich experiential document from a guided conversation. The teacher reviews it first and chooses their release pathway. The institution receives either the document or a simple notice that the process was completed.
For organisations
A qualitative research engagement that gives school leaders a genuinely accurate picture of how their staff are experiencing their work. Not a survey — a structured, IPA-grounded interview process that surfaces the real texture of staff wellbeing, culture, and professional life.
Our approach
Sluice Consultancy is grounded in Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis — a research tradition that takes lived experience seriously, and asks what an experience means rather than how often it occurs.
The interview is where something becomes possible that wasn't before — a space for experience to be spoken carefully, and heard without agenda.
IPA prioritises rich, nuanced insight from a small number of participants over statistical patterns from large samples. A different kind of truth — and often a more useful one for educational settings.
Every engagement operates under a rigorous ethics framework. Participants speak freely because their confidentiality is genuinely protected — not just promised.
The output of every engagement — whether a leadership report or a personal document — is crafted to be genuinely usable: clear, honest, and grounded in what was actually said.
